A few years ago I received a brown sugar scrub from a friend for Christmas. Since then I have played around with the recipe a bit and found that I really enjoy making these and using them to exfoliate, especially during the winter. Without further ado…
On the 5th day of fitness, Hello Wellness gave to me: DIY Almond Brown Sugar Scrub!
First things first, why exfoliate? Using some kind of scrub, whether it is homemade or purchased from a shop, will help remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and allow moisturizer to penetrate more deeply into your skin. I know that whenever the seasons change my hands and face notice it the most. When a moisturizer doesn’t seem to be cutting it I know it’s time to exfoliate.
The recipe I used to use called for olive oil but I found that it was too slimy and while the smell wasn’t unpleasant, I didn’t favor it too well. Changing to almond oil made a big difference in the smell and therefore I don’t always use essential oils. Raw sugar grains are quite a bit larger so work better for an exfoliant in my opinion. Here’s a side by side photo to compare textures. This is also available in the baking section of the supermarket.
Are you sending any DIY projects or gifts to a friend or relative this holiday season? I find that homemade gifts always have a little more meaning, even when it’s something as simple as this! Consider making one thing to share this holiday season!
