Wow, I’m glad this work week is over. I probably released way too much cortisol over the course of the last few days. Thankfully I just attended a conference all about reducing stress and was reminded by Dr. Michael AbouAssaly of Burlington, Iowa of a few things I can be doing each day to de-stress and release less cortisol. In case you’re wondering how cortisol plays a role in stress and other health concerns, click here; otherwise, enjoy the photos below!
Chew on this: Nuts and seeds! In addition to being a healthy snack, just cracking pistachios open might be stress reducing in and of itself.
Sip your tea. I’ve come around to tea in the last couple years.
Hug someone! Making contact by hugging or holding hands helps reduce stress. Human contact is important so if you have someone to hug, go for it!
Try to relax. Everyone has a different definition of relaxing activities. One of my favorite things to do when I’m stressed is look at a picture of a beautiful place I’ve been and think of how lucky I am to have seen it with my own eyes. Here is one from Plitvice Lakes, a national park in Croatia.
What do you like to do to relax?
