Last weekend, Drake University and Hy-Vee partnered to welcome home the Olympians from the great state of Iowa. Because I work for Drake, I was able to be front and center for this awesome event. I was actually assigned to be Coach Chow’s host, aka go-to gal, which was pretty neat in my opinion!
Hearing so many inspiring stories from the athletes got me thinking that they’re not all that different from you or me. They all had to work hard to make it to London and represent the U.S. They all had to sacrifice something in their lives over the past several years to see the results they desired. They all encountered obstacles that they had to push beyond to be the best in their sport.
When you think about what goals you’d like to accomplish, you need to go about it the S.M.A.R.T. way. If you’re unfamiliar with that acronym, here’s a quick look:
S=Specific: What do you want to accomplish?
M= Measurable: How can you measure your progress?
A=Attainable: Is it feasible for you to accomplish this goal?
R= Relevant: Is what you’re trying to accomplish relevant to your life?
T= Time-Bound: When would you like to accomplish this goal?
I’m quite certain that the different athletes I met last weekend all had to set several S.M.A.R.T. goals to become Olympians. While you’re probably not training for Rio in 2016, there is probably something your life that you’d like to accomplish, right? Whether you’re trying to eat healthier, exercise more, or manage your time more wisely, by setting a S.M.A.R.T. goal, you’ll be much more likely to see the results you desire!
