I hope the title of this post didn’t scare you too much! Remember, it doesn’t say “Readers, Beware” but rather “Readers, Be Aware!” I suppose if you’ve made it this far you plan to read the rest so I shouldn’t be too worried. This post was inspired by something I saw at a concert this past Sunday:I saw MGMT and their large, on-stage cowbell said “Be Aware” which I think is a good reminder as sometimes we get distracted and life gets distracting. A few things to be aware of each and every day:
Be aware of how you feel when you wake up in the morning. Tired? Try going to bed a little earlier. Refreshed? You’re probably getting enough sleep, bravo!
Be aware of how you feel as you eat. Are you full? Time to stop! If you think you could eat more, wait a couple of minutes and then reevaluate. This is especially important with the holidays coming up.
Be aware of how you feel when you exercise. There’s a difference between pain and simply feeling the burn. One of the athletic trainers at Drake once told me, “if it’s pain and doesn’t feel right, you should stop before you do too much damage.”
Be aware of the feelings of others. Everyone is stressed this time of year. I’m stressed, you’re stressed, we’re all stressed. At moments like this people can be extra sensitive so go out of your way to be kind.
Be aware of your finances. You might spend more than usual due to the holiday season so keep tabs on that checking or savings account.
Be aware of your surroundings. Recently my friend was the victim (I don’t like that word but what else should I call it, survivor? Yes, that’s right, survivor!) of parking lot theft. Someone was lurking in the parking lot at work and after she got in her car the thief opened her back door and took her personal belongings. Thankfully she’s ok but it’s a good reminder to always be alert and aware of your surroundings because unfortunately, there are some people who don’t have your best interest in mind.
