Walk It Out

It’s been one of those weeks where I just got around to reading the Sunday paper this morning during breakfast. I’ve had a busy week at Drake, Grand View, and with Hello Wellness so I needed to find something relaxing to do with my only morning where I don’t have to be out of the house before 7:30. When I woke up today the sun was shining for the first time in about three days so I chose to soak up some rays and walk to work with the extra time I had.

Walking is one of the best ways for me to mentally and physically unwind and de-stress. It takes me about 20 minutes to walk from my home to my office and it’s the perfect activity to take in the scenery, listen to music, and get some fresh air before I spend my entire day indoors. In addition to getting me from point A to point B, it was my cardio workout for the day!

The autumn season is so beautiful in Iowa and I encountered many changing trees en route to work. Did you know that looking at pictures of nature can be stress reducing? I noticed my mood immediately changed when I was encountering all these pretty trees. Some of them were so stunning that I just couldn’t help but get my phone out to capture the moment. Here are some of my favorites!

The best tree in my neighborhood, hands down:

Copeland TreeIt was all yellowThis beautiful tree sits on Drake’s campus. It almost looks fake from a distance. I actually thought it was a weird red construction paper sign until I got up close and personal with it!

Just before I crossed the bridge I noticed the next two trees that had berries and little apples decorating the rather barren branches.

Sometimes life gets too hectic, stressful, and routine to even notice beauty but it truly is all around us and there’s free admission! This was a perfect way to both start and end my day and it didn’t cost a thing. If anything I saved money by not driving to work!
