Did you know that certain produce fares better on the counter than in the refrigerator? Keeping the produce listed below at room temperature will both enhance their flavor and allow them to stay fresh longer.
Citrus Fruits – If you prefer your oranges, grapefruits, limes, and lemons juicy, keep them on the counter. If you purchase citrus in bulk and are concerned about it going bad, store some in the refrigerator.
Peaches, Plums, and Nectarines – Like citrus fruits, these will be juicier if you keep them on the counter. If you must refrigerate, wait until they are room temperature before you eat for more flavor.
Tomatoes – When stored in the refrigerator, tomatoes become mealy and lose their flavor rapidly. Tomatoes should be stored on the counter and away from direct heat. Try to keep out of direct sunlight unless they need to ripen.
