There are a multitude of recovery beverages on the market but did you know that good old fashioned chocolate milk is one of the best? Because of its perfect 3 to 1 ratio of protein grams to carbohydrate grams it helps replenish your muscles upon completion of your workout.

Chocolate milk also contains whey, a protein that is digested quickly and enhances muscle repair and the protein casein which is digested slowly to minimize muscle breakdown.¬†While some of the popular recovery drinks are higher in overall protein content, you typically don’t find the naturally occurring proteins that chocolate milk can offer. Plus, chocolate milk contains calcium and Vitamin D, two desirable nutrients.

So this week my treat at the grocery store was this delicious bottle of chocolate milk from the local creamery, Picket Fence. Bottoms up!
